You can do anything…just not everything!
My dad used to remind me of this often…and it only took about 40 years for me to realize the truth in it, “You can do anything, just not everything!” In our most blessed country, we have so much opportunity presented that we often get caught in what I like to call the “stretched mode”…doing so many things that nothing gets done well.
Don’t feel like you are alone…in fact, you are in the great majority of those who want to do so much in their life, that they have 10 projects going at all times. I’ve done it myself, and I have to continually check myself to make sure I am not sliding back into this aggressive habit. The reason is is so hard to break out of is that (1) you feel real busy all the time…so you must be accomplishing something, right; and (2) your goals are so general in nature that your plan of attack is general in nature…thus you keep planning “a lot of stuff” to reach your goals.
How about we work together and break out of this goal with our Ambit business? First, decide if this is a business or a hobby for you. How will you know? Ask yourself these questions:
- Am I willing to follow a plan shown to be successful?
- Am I willing to create a list of daily ACTIONABLE steps I will take to make this plan happen?
- Is my goal to make money, or to just have fun ”trying something?”
If you just want to do some things, whenever you find some time, and don’t really care about the money, all you have at best is a hobby…and you don’t need my help for that. If you decided you do have a business, Don’t do what most failed business owners do: try to create their own way of doing common tasks already shown successful using another method. Instead, copy from the best…find out who is doing what you want well and copy everything you can…then tweak those in which you do not get the same results. If you won’t do what other people having success are doing, you will have great difficulty having success when there are no easy answers.
Next, tweak the things working to fit your style - some changes may work, some may not. Be responsible enough to accept a few small failures to gain a few big wins. As you have been told by Brian McClure, “If you want to see the problem with your Ambit business, just look in the mirror.”
AND LAST…but most important: STAY FOCUSED WITH A SINGULARITY OF PURPOSE! THIS IS KEY.
So what do you do with the many things you having going on? Drop the things that are meaningless…8 hours of TV every week, reading email every other hour, meeting the guys for breakfast every morning (unless they are consultants as well, and you are really planning business)…there is plenty you can do away with. For the things that cannot be dropped…job, family, special commitments…try and work with those involved to make the most of the time when you are with them, so that when you get back to Ambit business you are focused on Ambit business.
No one ever said this business would be easy…it is easier than most that I have been involved with, and greatly easier than most start-ups…but it is still a business and must be treated as such in order to see success. So go to bed early tonight, and get up early ready to work Ambit…and let’s go make a killing~!
