Oprah Kept Quite during Election - Yeah, right!

Oprah, in a article you can here from FoxNews, said that the election is now over so she no longer has to remain quite about Obama. Remain quite? I never knew she shut-up!Oprah’s contention is that she kept quite during the election, only showing support for Obama as a private citizen, and that now that it is over she can talk politics on her show. Hello???? Oprah…you are a public figure. That does not mean that once your show goes off the air, you can worship at the Obama alter, and it does not have the same effect as talking politics on your show. IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME! You are a public figure 24×7x365…you do not get to choose to be private here and there at your choosing.

I cannot remember anyone as high profile as Oprah being so public about their political choice. How many times in the last 2 years has Obama been on your show? How many times was McCain or any other Republican candidate? How many times did we hear about Obama’s books? Enough said…it was always a one way street with Oprah that she made painfully clear. I have no problem with Oprah or anyone else wanting to help elect the first African American President…that is both their right and privilege in this fine democracy. I would just ask that they don’t pretend that they remained neutral, or didn’t exert influence, or voted without race being the key issue - it was not as the post election polls showed. Let’s face it…if Oprah says she likes anything, the next day there are enough followers to part the Red Sea. Good or bad, let’s not be so naive as to believe any differently.
